Novel Nest
Overview
Novel Nest is a prototype app for book-related social media and reviews. Serving as a mobile-friendly alternative to Goodreads, the app was made to be a comfortable and adaptive experience. The user experience is designed a to allow new users to easily pick up the platform, featuring elements other book platforms lack (chat function, user search, easier list editing, etc.) To help stand out among competitors, the apps branding is made to emulate a "cozy" color palette, avoiding harsh whites and bringing reading to users minds.

Novel nest was created as a response to the outdated UI of Goodreads. It is one of the primary methods of book social media and reviews, yet the design is stuck in the 2000's and it lacks many modern social media features (different types of posting, list editing, chat functions, etc.) Not satisfied with Goodreads and noticing the lack of a home for the growing online book community, my team decided to create a solution.
When designing the flow of the app the team prioritized solving the problems presented by Goodreads. Inspiration was taken from social platforms such as Instagram for image sharing, Twitter for text sharing, and Spotify for list creation and organization. User testing began during Mid-Fidelity, in which the post creation feature was changed to allow for additional post types. The chat feature was also added during this phase after it was determined it was wanted according to user feedback.
